The Butterfly Lovers is a well-known folktale in China
that is similar to the tragic Romeo and Juliet. Young
actors have arranged this story into a contemporary-style
performance piece. They set the stage by
using only the simplest of props and pantomime.
With live music and live-drawing, they perform the
tragic play down to the most subtle details. The
young and pure characters in the performance ask
us about the meaning of life and evoke a sense of
longing for innocent love.

The House of Spirit explores the universal theme of love and death, narrated by the spirits. While the four men (one actor and three dancers) represent the multifaceted love of men, the female dancer who plays the four roles of a dancer, a doll, a wife, and a woman who fails to become a mother, symbolizes the solitude of the female love. Trapped in the endless reincarnation, the souls of these men and women drift on in a phantasmal world in a lonely pursuit of love.
